North Dakota Leaders Support Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill

Last week, North Dakota leaders gathered in Bismarck to voice support for President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB), citing its alignment with the state’s long-standing approach to pro-growth, pro-family policy.

SENATOR JOHN HOEVEN: “Let Families Drive the Economy”
Senator Hoeven emphasized that the bill empowers families—not government—to decide how they spend their money.

“That’s the engine that runs the car,” Hoeven said. “Lower taxes drive economic growth and generate revenue. That’s how we do it in North Dakota.”

He highlighted key provisions: preserved overtime protections, expanded childcare tax credits, and a seven-year Farm Bill to strengthen agriculture. He also stressed the bill’s investments in national defense, border security, and energy dominance.

GOVERNOR KELLY ARMSTRONG: “Focus on ND’s Big Three”
Governor Armstrong emphasized that the bill strengthens the core drivers of North Dakota’s economy: agriculture, energy, and small business.

“These are the industries that keep our state competitive and our communities strong,” Armstrong said.

He pointed to expanded support for ag producers, energy development, small business growth, permitting reform, and increased administrative funding for programs like SNAP. Armstrong called the bill a strategic win for both rural and urban North Dakota.

“This isn’t just about cutting red tape—it’s about ensuring that our industries can thrive in a global marketplace while meeting local needs.”

GNDC CEO ARIK SPENCER: “Support for Small Business and Workforce”
GNDC President & CEO Arik Spencer emphasized how the bill helps small businesses—99% of all North Dakota businesses—and over half the state’s workforce.

“This bill protects pass-throughs, expands R&D, and recognizes childcare as a workforce issue. It provides long-term certainty and growth.”

Chamber and Business Voices Back the Bill
Brenda Nagel of the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber EDC noted positive impacts on the service industry and critical workforce sectors.
“Taxes on tips, retention in healthcare and energy—this bill addresses those head-on.”

Molly Barnes from Northern Improvement underscored how overtime provisions benefit workers.
“The overtime tax deductions ensures that more money stays in my employees' pockets.”

North Dakota leaders say the bill reflects what the state has done for decades—support families, reduce tax burdens, and grow the economy from the ground up.
President Trump signed the bill into law on July 4.
