GNDC Issues Oppositional Statement on Constitutional Measure to Eliminate Property Tax (Measure 4)

BISMARCK, ND  – The Greater North Dakota Chamber (GNDC) has issued an official statement opposing Measure 4, a constitutional measure that seeks to eliminate property tax in North Dakota. After careful analysis and consideration, GNDC strongly believes this measure poses significant risks to the state’s long-term economic stability and the well-being of its communities.

“GNDC opposes the abolishment of property tax (Measure 4) due to the significant risks it poses to North Dakota’s long-term economic stability. With an annual cost of $1.3 billion and no plan to cover it, this measure threatens essential services like schools, public safety, and infrastructure, particularly in rural communities. These services are crucial for attracting and retaining workforce talent, a critical issue for our state.”
 
“We held the same stance in 2012 when a similar measure with the same goal was proposed. North Dakota citizens decisively defeated it, 76% to 23%. Recognizing the dangers of the current measure, GNDC was one of the first organizations to oppose the measure and join the Keep It Local North Dakota Coalition. This coalition, supported by over 70 organizations from key sectors across the state, works to preserve local control and maintain the quality of life North Dakotans expect. We strongly urge our members and the citizens of North Dakota to vote NO on Measure 4.”
